This is a compilation of the SexPistols#8217; greatest work. And, as such, it stands up for itself with attitude, swagger and a lot more foresight and intelligence than they ever credited themselves with. Every single track challenges us to think for ourselves, had they had the smarts the Pistols would#8217;ve been the perfect accompaniment to the movie /V for Vendetta/, from #8216;God Save the Queen#8217; (a precious regime, it made you a moron#8230;she#8217;s not a human being), to #8216;Pretty Vacant#8217; (#8220;Theres no point in asking us youll get no reply#8230;we#8217;re so pretty, pretty vacant#8221; -social commentary about thirty or forty years ahead of its time.).
The musical style also feels less harsh than when I first heard their music, back in the early to mid eighties, but oh so much more valid now than then. There are two songs that particularly stand out for me: #8216;C#8217;mon Everybody#8217; and #8216;My Way.#8217;
C#8217;mon Everybody stands out because it feels out of place, a far happier, more party-minded song than I ever expected from the #8216;Pistols. #8216;My Way#8217; stands out because for some reason the first stanza is omitted from the recording. And#8230;that sits wrong. It#8217;s still a superb track, and far more original than Sinatra#8217;s ever was, but#8230;it needs to be all there to be there at all; this is the only reason that the compilation doesn#8217;t get a full five-stars.
