I dont want to start this out on the offence but I'd like to cut some people short who may have the opinion that raising kids is un punk.
I don't wanna hear it your either too young to get it or a hidiously old virgin. but, eventually if you stick your dick into enough women eventually some lucky girl is gonna shit you out a fuck trophy and unless your a complete piece of shit(and if thats your idea of keeping it real you need to find some place to die....alone,fuck you) hopefully you've stuck around to put your mark on that beautiful unmolded human being. I tried to put that as punk and offensive as I could but really I'm just fucking around.
I wanna know how you people mainly guys but i'll even take a punk rock mom idgaf any way how do you impart your ideals on your kids. what do you teach them. how much do you tell them as anyone worthy of calling themselvs punk has to have a couple of shady/crazy moments days or even years.
we all usually have a mutual hatred for the police. do you teach you kids to hate cops? shit like that are you interested in making them prepared for the fucked up world we live it or what? I wanna see some people weigh in and then I'll put my worthless two cents in.

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
Hey I think this is a really interesting topic!
I agree with you that there's nothing "un-punk" about raising a kid, and if you have one, raising it well is pretty much the coolest thing you can possibly do. Lord knows enough people fuck it up, so it must be reasonably difficult! lol
I actually don't have kids, and I don't plan on having them (too expensive, at least in my current situation) but hypothetically, I have my own ideas about it.
I definitely teach my kid to question authority in the abstract sense, like don't listen to/agree with everything the Prime Minister says just because he's the Prime Minister, and don't cling to nationalist feelings particularly if your country is doing some genuinely shitty things (and most countries' governments are at the moment, no doubt), and I'd certainly raise him/her to question religion. But, at the same time, I want to impart the idea that there's a difference between doing that and just going around vandalising, beating people up and being a general asshole. That's why I wouldn't teach them to hate cops in any generalized way... if that makes sense? lol not incredibly coherent at the moment.
I'd just want them to be their own person, aside from those major philosophical points. I don't think I'd raise them to be punk or anything, because if they really really don't want that, then ok! Being punk is about being your own person anyway, so either way i win!! muahaha

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
Most of the Punk Rock mentality disappears as you get older and even more-so if you're raising kids. Giving my son a future with less pain than I've had is much more important that anything else to me. I have no regrets and the music means more to me than ever.. but screaming anarchy and "fucking shit up" is just a little silly when you are trying to live by example for your kids. The internet has changed the meaning of punk anyway.. if it didn't, none of us would be on here right now.. we'd be hanging outside the local punk rock club bitching about how bored we were. .
I don't hate people for being cops, I disrespect anyone who abuses their position.. including parents, co-workers, bosses, politicians, big headed musicians, etc.. If something ever happened to your kid, would you really want them afraid to tell the police? That's just fucking stupid.

My little girl's almost six months here, and I try to keep her on a steady diet of Ramones, Richard Hell, Jerry Lee, and Iggy, and a "don't take no shit" philosophy. We'll see what happens.

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
Im a proud father of a 4 year old badass! hahaha! I tell her to question everything! I dont limit her to government religion etc. if im telling her to do something like dont play in the street or whatever i expect her to question me. If she doesnt ask ill ask her why im telling her not to play in the street, that way she gets used to needing a reason for her actions. As far as being punk, shes never used the word, punk is being able to choose what u like and who u are without giving a fuck what people around u are telling you. To fight when somebodys trying to force anything, unwanted physical just as much as unwanted mental advances. And the golden rule man!! You dont want people giving u shit and fucking up your shit? Then dont give them shit and fuck up their shit! Yeah, being a punker and having kids is a beautiful thing!

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
Most kids will grow up to hate what you were and what you taught them about life. The best way to raise a punk kid is to give them a normal childhood. If you raise them punk/anarchist, they'll grow up to hate those ideas. Plus, why ruin the best time in anybody's life with political and ideological nonsense? Keep kids innocent; they'll have plenty of time to rebel.
I raise my kids to be respectful, but to always ask WHY. And to have a strong sense of confident self-image. I'd rather raise a good person, than a good punk.

I am 41 and still punk rock. My 15 year old is his own punk rock. We share music and discuss world events. I just wish he would start getting "A's" in class! LOL. He is a highly intelligent individual who decides for his self. I raised him to be a leader not a follower and be socially conscious of what he is rebelling against.

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
My girlfriend is currently 5 months pregnant so i'm not speaking from experience yet but I'm sure at one point i will pass on to my child, what i've learned over the years from being a punk and from being a part of the scene. I won't push my musically taste on to them but i will teach em to question everything in life, to feel comfortable with who they are, to accept everyone for who they are unless there a fucking bonehead.

Re: How many Punk rock dads are out there?
Proudly father of two kids (6 & 11)... Not sure that there's a difference with other people : you just try to grow up yous children with your own values. OK, my kids dont' listen to the radio or don't watch videos, not because they can't, just beacause they don't like it. I don't learn them to hate anybody, just to be able to have a real reflection, not to be a sheep that follow the others. My daughter (11 yo) is dressed just how she likes... that means skulls, dark clothes, etc. just because her mother is a goth. She already knows that in real life when you don't follow the troop there's some difficulty, but it's the price to be a free human being.
